Vows
Personal promises, and how they differ from rules.
Trading vows
A vow is a promise you make to yourself. Where a rule is statistical, a vow is moral. It exists for the commitments that matter but do not reduce to a threshold.
Examples of things that work better as vows than rules: I will not trade to get even. I will close the platform when I am done, whatever the tape does. I will not look at another trader's position before forming my own view.
The editor (Edit Vow) has four fields:
| Field | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Promise | The commitment itself, in your own words |
| Start Date | When it takes effect |
| End Date | When it lapses. Short-dated vows are easier to keep than permanent ones |
| Order | Position in the list |
| Associated Rule | An optional link to a rule that measures something related |
Vows show up in Rigor as a banner and as a list you confirm with Confirm Trading Vows. A check-in question of type Vow Sayer lists your active vows so you can affirm them individually as part of a form.
Write vows in the first person and keep them short. A vow you cannot recite from memory is not a vow, it is a note.
